Introducing GPT Store: OpenAI’s New Online Marketplace for Buying and Selling Custom Chatbots

OpenAI, the artificial intelligence company behind ChatGPT, has sent an email to all registered GPT Builders announcing the official launch of GPT Store this week. It is a new platform where users can share and sell custom AI agents based on OpenAI’s language models for specific tasks.

In early November, the AI company announced the upcoming launch of a store to centralize all GPTs created by users for ChatGPT, enabling them to sell and monetize their creations on the platform. Initially planned for the end of that month, the store’s launch was postponed.

December also passed without the store’s launch due to the firing and reinstatement of Sam Altman to the board of directors. However, the time has finally arrived, and the GPT Store will become a reality this week.

How the GPT Store Will Function

Similar to mobile app stores, GPT Store will be divided into categories to classify creations, and they will be ranked based on the most downloaded. In the email sent to creators, OpenAI specified three basic requirements for sharing GPTs on the new platform:

  • Accept and comply with the Usage Policy and Brand Guidelines.
  • Have a verified Builder profile.
  • Make your GPT publicly accessible, avoiding even link-based access.

GPTs are one of the latest releases from ChatGPT, allowing any user to create bot versions using prompts, videos, images, and files to assist in training. For example, users can create a bot that proofreads text following a specific editorial line, assists with company quotations, or solves programming problems in a specific way.

With the introduction of GPT Store, users will have a centralized space where they can discover proposals from other creators and charge for their own creations. Currently, it is not known how OpenAI will compensate creators for the usage of their GPTs by others.

The company already has a store featuring an app search engine, categorized themes, and the ability to search by creators. Users can also access it through the ChatGPT Plus exploration page.
